About the Symposium

Bridging the Spectrum: A Symposium on Scholarship and Practice in Library and Information Science offers a knowledge-sharing forum and meeting place for practitioners, students, and faculty in Library and Information Sciences and Services. Presentations are selected to showcase innovative practices, projects, and research activities in a variety of library, archives, or information services activities. Because students, faculty, and practitioners all share their work, the Symposium encompasses many different aspects and points of view on library and information professional work. The program's goal is to foster unexpected connections across the spectrum of the information professions.

Keynote Address

emily-headshot.jpegThe 2024 keynote address was delivered by Emily Drabinski, the President of the American Library Association. Emily Drabinski is Associate Professor at the Queens (N.Y.) College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. She edits Gender and Sexuality in Information Studies, a book series from Library Juice Press/Litwin Books.

TITLE: Libraries for the Win!
ABSTRACT: Librarians are experts at the pivot. We move between print indexes, CD-ROMS, and relational databases with ease, leaping big technology shifts in a single bound. We offer readers advisory while explaining how to find the bathroom and advocate for increased library funding in the moments in between. But we can’t do it alone! Join ALA President Emily Drabinski for a discussion of the good work libraries do, the support we need to keep it going, and strategies for staying nimble as we fight for the world we want.
